Cristiano commenced training under Vicente Cavalcanti at Southside Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as a purple belt in 2013, later being promoted to black belt in 2019. He predominantly trains in nogi jiu jiitsu and values precise technique, positional understanding and the development of effective strategy as the backbone of his coaching style. He has travelled the world training with multiple champions of the sport, at one time living in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on a sponsorship to study the art. Previously, Cristiano has worked as a commentator for events such as Eternal MMA and as part of the marketing team for Keenan Online and Legion American Jiu Jitsu in San Diego California. But no matter where Cristiano has been, he has always called Southside Brazilian Jiu Jitsu his home.

Henry de Campos is a dedicated martial artist with a passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). He embarked on his journey in BJJ under the guidance of Professor Vicente Cavalcanti, starting his training when Vicente arrived in Australia as a remarkable brown belt to then become one of the greatest Black Belt coach and athlete in Australia. Through years of dedicated practice and perseverance, Henry progressed through the ranks, overcoming challenges to improve his skills on the mat.

Under the mentorship of Professor Vicente, Henry achieved the prestigious milestone of earning his black belt in BJJ. Throughout his journey, Henry witnessed the remarkable growth of Southside BJJ as a gym, witnessing its evolution into a thriving community of martial artists. Being an integral part of this journey has been a source of great pride for Henry, thanks to the support and guidance of Vicente, Sarah, and the entire Southside Family.

Campbell has been training in BJJ since he moved to Ireland in 2001 and joined Southside in 2016 as a blue belt. That year he won double Gold in the QLD state championships in ultra heavywieght and open weight and soon after recieved his purple belt. Two years later he won double gold again as a purple belt. He received his black belt from Vicente in 2022.

Diego Pereira, a dedicated martial artist, embarked on his journey at the age of 19, culminating in the prestigious achievement of earning his black belt under the tutelage of Coach VC by the age of 30—an accomplishment he cherishes deeply. Now at 31, Diego boasts an impressive repertoire of victories, securing numerous regional and state titles across his progression from white to brown belt. As a professional MMA fighter, Diego currently holds the #3 ranking in Australia/New Zealand, firmly committed to pursuing excellence and etching his name in the records of greatness.

I’ve been immersed in the world of sports since I could walk. From competitive soccer to exploring Muay Thai, Kickboxing, my path eventually led me to the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Since late 2013/early 2014, BJJ has been more than just a sport for me – it’s become a way of life.

Beyond learning and training, my passion lies in facilitating classes and effective ways of learning motor skills. As a referee, I find immense fulfillment in contributing to the growth and fair play of the sport, ensuring that every match is conducted with integrity and respect.

As a competitor, I’ve had the privilege of testing my skills on various platforms. One of my proudest moments was competing internationally at the IBJJF Worlds Master in Las Vegas, where I clinched double silver medals in both weight division and absolute.

Grant has been involved in martial arts since 1994, and commenced his Brazillian Jiu Jitsu journey in 2012.  He trains consistently and is passionate about the sport’s philosophies and techniques, always looking for ways to improve. He is enthusiastic about passing on his knowledge to fellow students, both young and old.  In 2023 Grant was awarded his black belt under Prof. Vicente Cavalcanti and joined the coaching team at Southside BJJ.

I am Alexandre Herilanto (Lanto), I am 46 years old, a husband, a father of the 2 little boys, a web developper; I started jiu jitsu in 2005 under the guidance of Professor Faly Rabarilala, above the sport side of jiu jitsu, I felt that it would be an effective tool to bring something positive for the society that’s why I opened my own gym in 2013 which becomes Southside brazilian jiu jitsu Madagascar in 2021, an academy which has produced some Madagascar National champions and African Champion in Mauritius.
